Hiiii,
So I started school on Monday at 10am. The school system is very hard for me to explain, but basically I am in the 1st "grade" class in Gymnasium and there are 3 "grades" in Gymnasium. 1st "grade" is kind of like what the first year of high school would be in the US.
My host mom, Marianne, drove me and my host sister, Lærke, to school in Skive. As we got closer to the school, I saw students who were biking to school being bombarded by older students! Marianne let us out of the car (and I was kind of scared!). As we were walking into the school, the older students had formed a "welcoming" ceremony. Basically it was a huge crowd of students who were dumping flour, glitter, and water on us and writing "I <3 3g" and stuff like that on us. It was insane! People were handing me necklaces with candy on them, tying balloons to my backpack, writing all over me, and someone dumped glitter in my hair! Luckily Lærke was there to pull me through the crowd, because I had no idea what to do! I had never experienced anything like this, but it was actually kind of fun. When we got inside, there was a band set up and they were playing music for all the students. We hung out before we had to go to the assembly for the new students. Once it was 10am, all the students filed into the "store sal," or assembly hall for the first day assembly. There, we did a weird dance haha, and we listened to the principal give her speech. Then she called off the names of the students and what classes they were to go to. I knew that I was in class 1b, so I listened closely for my name. However, at the end of the names, she announced, in English, "we have also have an exchange student from USA, Sarah Mogil, she understands Danish, but I'm going to speak English just in case." LOL I was just thinking, "yeah, I would have understood it in Danish." :D So I was a little embarrassed about that...
Anywho, we went to our classrooms and received all the necessary information, most of which I did not understand because, of course, they speak DANISH! haha, well anywho, then we got our pictures taken, ate lunch, then I was late getting back to class-but I wasn't the only one. :) I am not getting my hopes up too high, but I think I may have already made a couple friends. Or at least "acquintences." (sp?) Anywho, so not much else happened. After we were done with school, I had a chance to talk to the teacher, mostly in Danish. :) And clarified everything, like the fact that I'm only coming to school two days a week until November. (because of sprogskole). And the fact that I will be gone all next week at a Rotary Intro Camp. By the way, classes tend to be canceled a lot if a teacher is unavailable, and the only class that I have tomorrow is canceled, so I don't have to come to school tomorrow!! Yay! I will work on my Sprogskole homework! So yeah...
Anywho, that was my first (and only day for two weeks) of school! It was pretty frightening!! :O But I survived, so that's good. :)
Well, I have been on the computer for too long and I am pretty sleepy. So I'm going to bed now! Good night! (or good afternoon for everyone in America) :)
