Hej!! Latest happenings...

Sorry I have not posted in a reeeaaalllly long time. I have been pretty busy and very tired!

Anywho, since the first day of school I have had Sprogskole, Gymnasium, intro camp, and a trip to Skagen! There's nothing really interesting to say about sprogskole except that we went to the library last Friday and I got a membership there. I think I am going to start checking out childrens' books to learn Danish. :P

Well, I have had some classes in Gymnasium for the first time this week, such as Biology and Math. The teachers are so awesome! They are so nice and interested in where I come from and other stuff about me. The really cool thing is that I can have a conversation about that stuff mostly in Danish! XD My classmates are really nice, too! Even though it is really hard to talk to them, they are still nice and help me if I don't understand something or need help with whatever. I am pretty upset about the fact that not only did I miss the class trip, but also the first school party! I really lost a couple of chances to bond with my classmates. But I was invited to one of their houses tomorrow night, so I am really excited for that! And I finally have my log-in info for the school website where we go to check the classwork and homework. Now I can actually know what's going on in class and do the homework!! ;D

So, intro camp. It was absolutely, ridiculously, AMAZING!! All the exchange students from all over Denmark were there-such an amazing experience meeting people my age from all over the world! I made so many friends and now I have so many plans to visit them all over Denmark! Anywho, I won't go into so much detail about the whole week, but I will give a short outline of what we did:
Sunday-settled in, met everyone, traded pins, had a short assembly, met our teachers (we had Danish lessons everday ;P)
Monday- Danish lessons, free time to hang out, then evening sports and other activities (I participated in 'hyggelig' time-I'll explain that later)
Tuesday- same as Monday except we also learned about teenagers in Denmark (very interesting), and instead of evening activities we watched a Danish movie
Wednesday- my FAVORITE day! Danish lessons, trip to Viborg for shopping, rock concert that night by the Striving Vines, a Danish rock band
Thursday- Danish lessons, then whatever for evening activities
Friday- trip to Århus, went to museum and more shopping, then bonfire at night
Saturday- evaluation of the week and dance party that night until 1am
Sunday- (very sad day) last goodbyes before we boarded our respective trains home. :'(

Intro camp was one of the most amazing weeks of my life. I met so many people my age from all over the world. I now have a few really good friends from India, Lithuania, Mexico, Brazil and all over the US. It was so much fun just hanging out with them and goofing around. We also made up a little secret group of friends called 'Narnia.' ;) It was awesome!

Last weekend my district in Denmark hosted a trip to Skagen- a town at the very top tip of Denmark. It was so beautiful and so much fun! On Friday I took a very long train/bus ride to Frederikshavn and there I met up with the other students in the district. We then rode the train up to Skagen where we stayed for two nights-Friday and Saturday. Saturday, we woke up early and took a double decker bus to the beach at Skagen. The bus was awesome! I know it's silly to be so excited about a bus, but it really was pretty cool! We sat on the second floor at the very front and got really scared every time the bus had to turn! XD
Anywho, the bus drove to a little gift shop/bathroom area and we all got off the bus to get on a 'tractor bus.' It's a tractor that pulls a little bus type thing right out to the water! As soon as we got onto the beach, everyone went CRAZY! We all ran into the water after taking our shoes off and started taking pictures! (You must look at my pics on FB, then you will see how beautiful it was!) The water was absolutely FRIGID! But it was still fun! And it didn't matter after a little while because I soon couldn't feel my feet! XP Anywho, that part of the country is so special because when you stand in the water, you can have one foot in the North Sea and another in the Baltic Sea! It was crazy to think about! After that, we walked to the lighthouse and walked up about 150 steps to the top. It was pretty scary! But also very beautiful! After that, we went to the Skagen Museum where we had a guided tour and looked at the artwork there. After, we went to the Skagen Pakhuset- a little cafe where we had could have any thing to drink for free, except alcohol of course. It was very hyggeligt! After, we drove back to where we were staying and hung out before bed. The next day we just ate breakfast then took the train home.

Monday was a long day at Gymnasium school- three two-hour classes from 8am-3:30pm. ugh.... Tuesday and Wednesday were Sprogskole days and today I had just two classes at Gymnasium.

This coming weekend is going to be awesome! Tomorrow I am going on a canoeing trip with my class at sprogskole and that night I'm hanging out with my friends from Gymnasium. Then from Saturday until Sunday I'm horseback riding with the family and their riding colleagues! ;D

Nothing more to write about. Sorry if that was too long and boring to read, but it really had been a while since I last updated!

Kærlig hilsen (With love),

Sarah

  1. Oh and I forgot to explain 'hyggelig.' Hyggelig has no exact translation to English, but it somewhat means cozy, warm feeling. Sort of like how we feel at Christmas being with the family and just talking about whatever and it's very warm and comfortable. :) I love hyggelig!
